Smoke from bonnet

2001 Vauxhall Vectra
Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I know my car has oil leak, but now the engine is smoking white smoke and there's a burning smell. Rang my mechanic who says oil is dripping onto the manifold?????? Went and got engine washed in order to take car to mechanic for fixing. Is this a big job and can the car go on fire????????

it sounds like cam cover gasket leaking and runing onto exhaust manifold will need new gasket and engine breather cleaning about 1 hours labour you dont say if it is petrol or diesel engine

also forgot to say but depending on what engine it has fitted some cam covers are plastic and can warp

Its a petrol engine. Mechanic has told me to try and find a new rocker cover complete, but not having much luck. For meantime I'm gonna power wash engine to keep build up of oil to a minimum :-(
