2002 Vauxhall Vectra starting & electrical problems

Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 2002
Variant: LS DTI 16V
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Just aquired this vehicle. (Wish I Had not!!)Out in the morning (Freezing Temp) car starts first time, two hours later and it refuses to start. It will turn over and over and eventually the battery is dead. I then have to rely on my other half to rescue me with a set of jump leads!!While waiting in the car the other evening the interior light was coming on and off on its own although I was not touching anything?? There appears to be no common denominator. It may start every time or it wont start at all. Cold or warm engine makes no differance? I also have a problem with the electrics although not so bothered about that. Going along and the speedo and all other clocks drop to Zero but does not affect the cars performance. I have discovered that if I open the drivers door while the clocks are down, they come back? (I am thinking the car must be haunted) Please can someone offer any advice? I would be very grateful. Thanks

OK I think you may have two related problems here. Firstly we'll deal with the electrical problem. I have seen this on my OH's car and it was a lose / badly seated fuse. There are fuse boxes in the Vectar C at each end of the dash. these can only be accessed with the door open so this could account for the instruments coming back on after the door is opened and closed again.

The starting prob couls also be fuse related as the fuse for the fuel pump may also be lose / faulty. Get these checked out.

I am also having an electrical problem with my vectra, but my fuses seem to be fine, my clocks are failing when i hit a bump on the road, when the clocks fail the Electro-hydraulic power assisted streering (dont even know what it means)light comes on when this light appears the car will not start for approx 10 mins, also when clocks fail the Traction Control system and Engine electronics and also the brake and clutch system lights come on, I have brought the car to a number of mechanics to plug the car into a computer to see what the fault maybe and it just wont come up it wont read it atal.
