hi i have a strange rattle coming from near the gearbox when i start the car and when i turn it off i've checked that nothing is loose and it doesn't do it when the car is moving anyone have any ideas

If it's not something external like a exhaust or heatshield rattle it may be the DMF ( DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL )

Yep flywheel is very common fault you gotta take box out to be sure but cheapest option for diagnostic is a mechanics ear

You could remove the starter and check it and the ring gear is okay.
