2001 Vauxhall Vectra enginenshaking when idle and driving.

Hi,
I have a Vuxhall Vectra 51 plate (02 reg year), petrol, 1.8 LS. It has done around 133k. It's engine has recently started to shake / vibrate. This happened several times before but it was intermittent so by the time i would take it to a garage it would stop to shake. This time it has been doing it for almost a week now. Just before it started to shake, it had gearbox and clutch (reconditioned) replaced (I dont think its related but just wanted to mention it). Local garage has done basic checks and could not find anything wrong. Electrician has had a look at it and thinks that ECU is faulty but cannot guarantee that replacing ECU would fix this problem. As I said the engine shakes when idle and when driving, and something rattles when driving (I am assuming that this is due to the vibrations).
Due to the age of the car I am reluctant to spend any more money on it. However, i would like to understand what the cause of the fault could be and then may decide to fix if worth it.

I may be wrong but i have a feeling these suffer with egr vavle problems. Blanking it off may help

mate im not a mechanic. i had the same problem..was a cheap fix,, ended up a engine mount needed changed. i hope its something smple like that for you
