2000 Vauxhall Vectra engine management light on/off

when driving normally engine management light comes on restricts power for 3 to 4 seconds then clears but although it restricts power it will still accelerate this happens sometimes as little as once a day or as often as ten times a day any solutions or advice would be gratefully recieved sorry to be a plum but im new to diesel engines and vauxhalls

Best bet would be to get it scanned for any faults...
