1993 Vauxhall Vectra start up fault

when i go to start the car it takes several turns on the key,
when it finally starts it starts with a judder then goes ok,
a cloud of smoke comes from the exhaust then its fine.and it starts ok after being driven, starts first time. what fault do i have? its due a service now and im getting this done hopefully this weekend.
any clues to why this happens.

It may just need that all importnat service to restore itself. Make sure ALL the filters etc are changed and see if it`s better afterwards. May be worth getting the fuel pressure checked if problem persists.

Get glow plugs checked and leak off pipes on injectors if not them check diesel for oil contamination in fuel filter if so bridge seals on injectors may be leaking
