Engine auto-diagnostic light on

1996 Vauxhall Tigra ecotech 1.4
Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 1996
Variant: ecotech 1.4
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi, just bought my son his first car, a Tigra 1.4 with 90,000 miles on the clock. He got me to put a larger rear exhaust box on, then within about 10 minutes of test driving, the engine auto-diagnostic warning light came on, plus it's now smoking slightly and not ticking over so smoothly. I had to weld some hangers for the rubbers to fit to as the box was not a vauxhall item. Have I screwed up? Paul

Take to a local garage and just get them to put a scan tool onto vehicle and see what codes are recorded it may just be a fault has occured at that time and may not be anything to do with what you have done, out of interest did you mig weld and did you have battery isolated
