FAN NOT WORKING

1998 Vauxhall Tigra 1.4 Auto
Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 1998
Variant: 1.4 Auto

Hi I have a 1998 1-4 Vauxhall Tigra Auto.

My Fan has stopped kicking in, we have replaced the radiator(with a radiator thermostat) and a fan but the fan still wont kick in, we tested the fan by attaching wires to the battery and it works fine, the cables and plugs from the fan to the battery should be OK, so we are a bit stumped to why it is still not working, possible fault with main thermostat? (need to try and locate the thermostat in the cramped engine bay.)

If anyone has any idea what the fault could be and where the thermostat is then thanks. Trin

I dont know what you mean when you say " (with a radiator thermostat) and " possible fault with main thermostat? " ? As far as I know there is only one thermostat .The fan only cuts in when the engine gets really hot and is governed by the rad fan sensor / switch temp range i.e

Closing Temperature: 115 °C
Opening Temperature: 120 °C
Shut-off Point: 100 °C

Hi sorry for the confusion, its the radiator thermoswitch that we have replaced, (at the bottom of the radiator) we have also replaced the fan and radiator, (a new temp gauge was fitted in May)

Thanks for replying so quick on a Saturday night.

Are you sure the car is actually getting hot enough for the fan to kick in? On a lot of cars the needle is sometimes nearly in the red before it cuts in . You could try bridging wiring at switch and see if it works . There is also a M-Tech cool-running fan switch which operates at 92 degrees, a lot earlier cutting in . I have seen some cars where there is steam nearly starting to come from rad before fan kicks in .Hope this helps .
