Dashboard won't light up

2012 Vauxhall Meriva 1.4
Car: Vauxhall Meriva
Year: 2012
Variant: 1.4
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
Hi everyone, I hope someone out there can help! I have a vauxhall meriva, 62 reg. It hasn't done an awful lot of miles, but had a new battery fitted at the beginning of this year as the old one wasn't holding any charge. I took it out for a run regularly so it didn't die again on me but over the last couple of weeks wasn't able to get it out. When Icame to start it up, it wouldn't start, so we jump started it from the other car and everything went fine, except the speedo and rev dial and my little screen displaying mileage etc now wont light up ! The needles are moving when the car is driving so as long as it's daytime I can see what speed I'm doing, i just can't see a thing once it goes dark, unless I driv past a lampost and get a bit of light! Everything else is ok, headlights , radio, etc, just these displays on the dashboard....I asked an RAC man and he said he's never seen this before ! Any ideas before I take it to an auto electricans and get ripped off!!?

Check the fuses for the display ,

Instrument panel fuse box

The fuse box is behind the storage compartment in the instrument panel. Open compartment, compress the locking tabs, fold compartment down and remove.

In right-hand drive vehicles, the fuse box is located behind a cover in the glovebox. Open the glovebox, pull cover upwards and remove.

Number Circuit
1 Radio
2 Display, instrument, telephone
3 Radio
4 Ignition switch, immobiliser
5 Windscreen washer, rear screen washer
6 Central locking system, tailgate
7 Central locking system
8 Display, instrument, telephone

Hi again everyone, I have a strange update regarding the above problem.... I went out to the car to have a look at the fuses etc as deetailed in the earlier response, and the car wouldn't start again.... fuming, I jumpstarted it again and got back in and as if by magic, everything was working again....all the bits that should have been lit last time were shining away and I could see what speed I was going and everything... I don't know what happened but I'm glad it did! Thank you anyway for your help with the problem, I'll be sure tocome back here if anything else goes wrong... which it probably will next time I try and start it!
