2008 Vauxhall Meriva eps light comes on power steering fails

Had this problem on and of since having the car.
Power steering has completely gone now.
Was told by local vauxhall dealer that vauxhall were aware of the fault and would fix it foc but because my car was registered in Dec it wasn't covered. Surely a fault is a fault despite when the car was registered

Cheers, I did know that it was a fault but have been messed around by the local dealer....

There are many causes of this problem. Poor connection in the plug and socket from the angle sensor is the easiest fix. Look underneath the column and you will see the EPS unit, with three connectors, the one with the little blue clip is the normal culprit. Prise out the blue clip, pull plug out, then back in, replace blue clip. Then pull out the next plug and back in. The third plug is main supply for the motor, not normally a problem, so leave it alone.

There are also 2 fuses that cover the EPS, one under the bonnet and fuse 35 (5amp) inside the car, which controls the circuitry.
