2011 Vauxhall Meriva oil pump failure

Car: Vauxhall Meriva
Year: 2011
Variant: 1.4 Exclusiv
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Recently the oil pump failed on my Merva B without warning. I had no loss of oil pressure and no oil warning light on the dash. A garage has informed me I have to either get a replacement engine from a breakers or pay to have mine reconditioned. The engine had only just completed 50,000 miles. Are there any other owners who have encountered a similar costly experience.

Only thing that kills oil pumps is lack of the correct oil and regular changes.
Has it been fully serviced?

Think you will find this is not an uncommon fault with various Vauxhall models .
