Electronic hand brake

2011 Vauxhall Meriva Excite
Car: Vauxhall Meriva
Year: 2011
Variant: Excite
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
When I change down from either 3rd to 2nd or 5th to 3rd the electronic brake engages bringing the car to a stop, this does not happen all of the time but when it does it does it a lot, I called the RAC a chap came out and it done to him 3 times in about 150 yards he declared it unroad worthy and towed it to a Vauxhall maindealer who could not find a fault with it. Two days after I got it back its doing it again, any ideas anyone!

Probably not going to be much help but it does sound like a short circuit.
All I can suggest is brake all electrical connectors concerning the system and clean them with electrical contact cleaner.
Intermittent faults like these can be a bugger unless it's actually doing it at the time.

I had the same problem , changed the hand brake unit under the car and all ok since . I suspect the build up of carbon dust in the unit to had caused the fault. DONT DRIVE THE CAR IF IT SHOWS THIS FAULT AS IT CAN happen even on the motor way ,glue you to the road and the guy behind you gets no warning no brake lights

What unit are you referring to ? With carbon dust is it the brake callipers and pad dust and not the h/brake control module ?
