2007 Vauxhall Meriva power steering/juddering

A few months ago my power steering went, then started again this time completely went on me, I understand people are saying that there is a fault, took mine to dealer who said they New nothing about this, I'm worried I'm going to have a huge bill can anyone suggest what to do thanks. The car would not steer at all it was very frightening.

surely if the steering failed completely then the dealer should at least log it as a safety issue.

Was the steering o.k when dealer tested it ? Could be EPAS pump .Alternator or battery faults can cause problems also check alternator charging rate .More likely on that year to be pump .
