I bought my Vauxhall Meriva today from a used car dealer. Everything was fine until I tried to reverse off my mum's drive. Tried putting the car into reverse and it wouldn't reverse at all. The car had to be pushed off the drive, when I put the car into first gear it seemed as though it was in third and shuddered along until I got up some speed. Second gear seems to be the same.
I've read up about gearbox linkage problems. Could this be the problem ?

Take it back to dealer for fixing if you have just bought the car today . Gear linkage / cables are very common fault .

I phoned the dealer earlier. He told me to take it back tomorrow morning.

Could be a minor fix , but let dealer sort it out , no sense you being out of pocket .Update the forum if you have any problems .
