Clutch burnt out after 7,000 miles

My wife was driving and had smoke coming from under bonet i took car for a drive and the biting point was 10 mm from the top of the pedal do we think the clutch has released when we took our foot off pedal we have been told that we are riding the clutch even thou it took my local dealer 10 days to get my car into the workshop car needs new dual mass flywheel clutch plate preser plate and thrust bearing and a bill of £1,400 do you think if my local agent got my car in earler it would be coverd by vauxhall

i would want to see the clutch plate. if the pressure plate side was worn away and the flywheel side was ok, then the only way this can happen is by riding the clutch. this would not be covered by warranty. if the clutch plate was eaqually worn on both sides then i would suspect a faulty clutch assembly and/or dual mass flywheel. that should be covered under the manufacturer warranty. given the age and milage of the car. hope this helps!!
