this rattle from steering colum it seems to go off when turning lock slightly to the left or right but straight ahead on pitted roads it rattles

I know the meriva had a recall with the electric steering but I don't think it was for a rattle. Have you tried banging with the palm of your hand to try and recreate the noise? Only other suggestion would be to remove the plastic covers and try to recreate the noise to find it a bit easier. I would suggest maybe a coin or similar may have dropped in somewhere but I wouldn't think steering direction would have altered a coin rattle. Have you tried googling something like "meriva steering column rattle"?

I've just done a Google for you and a lot of issues point to a special kind of sticky grease on the spline on the electric motor of the steering. When the grease dissapear apparently the spline rattles on straight ahead position. Or so I've just read.
