I have a Vauxhall Meriva 1.6 8v yesterday shortly after starting a journey when putting my foot down on the throttle the engine revs only picked up very slowly and the vehicle failed to do over 60mph and on coming to a halt on occasion if not careful the engine cut out. The petrol consumption on the journey was also very high. On my return journey I had none of these problems. The problem recurred this morning. No engine warning light is on

I would check the plugs and the coil pack .Can cause the engine to drop a cyl and misfire .If not that , check / change fuel filter .
