2004 Vauxhall Meriva stalling when cold

Car: Vauxhall Meriva
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.7cdti
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
My meriva starts fine and runs very well, but when the engine is cold,it fires up then stalls unless I keep my foot on the accel pedal. After about 1 minute of running it will idle stabily. tried a new fuel filter- garage fitted and it made no difference. The poblem first occured when the temp was down to -15C last winter.

MIL light has not come on

Any suggestions?
