2007 Vauxhall Meriva addometer working but only intermittently lit up

The mileage indicator on the dashboard was fine until on a long drive home from London, didn't light up when the engine was started again. Has lit up again since (so not the bulb) but pleases itself when it does light up - looks like it could be a connection problem - can I fix this myself? Thanks.

You may have inadvertendly turned off the panel light dimmer switch .
