Vauxhall Grandland X automatic gearbox needs replacing after 27000 miles only

Car: Vauxhall Grandland X
Variant: PETROL 1199 CC
Model Year: 2020
Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
Brought car in Jan 2023 – really persuaded to purchase this car although my wife wanted a Mokka. Wondering now if this was the reason why just to get it off the forecourt – feel like have been made a fool of. When picked car for first time had to take it straight to get petrol and the tyre pressure warning light came on – called Toomey Southend and was told to pump up tyre and reset . Should have realised then it was not a safe car then.

Summary of recent events
• Returned from holiday Friday 27th June at midnight – drove home and car was a little juddery but assumed as not drove for a week it was due to that.
• Got in car Saturday morning and as driving it started losing power and showed Gearbox Fault on dashboard.
• Called RAC
• RAC run diagnostic report (see attached) – he said there were loads of historic faults (these have never shown up on dashboard)
• Had car booked already for service at Vauxhall (as per agreement) on Monday 30th June (courtesy car provided at a cost which we took up). RAC recommended that we drive the car up to Toomey Vauxhall Southend (where booked for service) so he could follow us to ensure he was there if it broke down. Called Southend Toomey Vauxhall who said they would do diagnostics on it (wouldn’t take RAC report) whilst doing the service on the Monday (Diagnostic cost from Vauxhall £190)
• Booked car in on Saturday. Informed courtesy car would be ready on Monday (for service) and that could be extended if needed if car could not be fixed asap.
• Picked up courtesy car on Monday morning
• Called to be told service had been done and that the gearbox needed changing at a cost of £7500
• Informed courtesy car needed to be dropped off by 5:30pm that day and my car that was not working needed to be removed from their premises and brought back if repair booked through them.
• We told we had to remove our broken car from the premises after paying £3750 in full in order to start the ordering process (which at no time was told going to be months) as we were told we were not allowed to leave our broken Vauxhall on their forecourt and that we had to drive our car home 15+ miles at 20 mph with the hazards on which was a very frightening experience. This in turn is very worrying as we will also have to drive it back in this state when the car can eventually be fixed.
• Asked about extending courtesy car and informed couldn’t as had none.
• Called around loads of garages to get cost for them to fix gearbox – no-one could do automatic but all 10+ garages informed me that a gearbox should last at least if not much more than 60000 – 100000 miles so it must be a faulty gearbox and I should complain to Vauxhall. I also run a fleet of delivery vans which do over 100000 + miles and none have ever needed a new gearbox.
• Called Vauxhall and informed them of what the garages were saying and as a “gesture of goodwill” Vauxhall said they would reduce to £3750 – to be paid in full upfront before they could order the part.
• Paid £3750 in full on Monday at 5pm
• Not heard anything by Wednesday so called Vauxhall and asked when part coming and can we book car in. They said part due in 29th September at earliest (3 months)
• This means we will be without our car for over 3 months.
• The car has less than 30000 miles on the clock – has had regular MOT and services as per our agreement so we feel we have been sold a car not fit for purpose.
• This is our only car so have no way of getting to work so may possibly lose our jobs.
• Debt mounting as had to borrow £3750 in full to pay for part to be ordered not knowing how long it would leave us without a car as we were NEVER informed it could take so long– another huge stress.
• We are paying a lot of money for a car that we cannot use and have no faith in now.
• No courtesy car provided – yet told initially this was available.
• No customer service from Vauxhall Toomey – in fact my wife was really patronised and was actually told by Neil (Sales Manager – Vauxhall Toomey Southend) that “I should be grateful that we had a year’s warranty as they don’t need to give us that.

Vauxhall complaints not responding to emails. Any advice appreciated. Believe this is a fault on the car yet cannot prove it
