new fan belt tensioner fitted but when ticking over still rattling, belt pulling back, help

Sure it's the new tensioner and not the alternator itself ? Dont know what you mean by belt pulling back .

take off the auxillary belt and run the engine briefly this will gaurantee you are it the right area regarding the noise it may not be the tensioner. check pulleys for alignment and any play, it sounds like something may be out of align
