2003 Vauxhall Corsa timing chain kit

How much should it cost to repair a timing chain on a Vauxhall corsa comfort 1.0?


The engine is sound quite noisey on start up and theres a tapping noise while driving sometimes. No oil light or engine management light has come on yet.

Anyway i took the car to my local garage this morning (not a vauxhall dealer just an indipendent) he listened to the car starting up and said its the timing chain....and quoted me £800?!?!?! that cant be right surely??

i was thinking around the 200 quid mark perhaps but not that much. Iv checked online and the parts only cost £90-100 to buy

very very common fault and yes the are noisey at start up 800 is takin the p*** dealers normally take £500 a GOOD indepent should take about £250-£300. they take around 4hours book time so that garage labour is charging over £150 an hour tell them too ram it
