2000 Vauxhall Corsa engine managment light

Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.0 litre
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When I try to accelerate on the bypass I feel a tightening under my accerlerator and my engine management light comes on. I then start to slow down. If I take my foot off the accerlerator for a few seconds the light goes off but when I try to accerlerate again it comes back on. I have taken into a couple of garages and they said they can't diagnose the problem because of the age of the car. I spoke to a friend of mine who is a mechanic and he said I should change the MAF sensor. I am just wondering if this would definately fix it or has it happened to anyone else and what they did?

Please help :)

Load of rubbish " they can't diagnose the problem because of the age of the car. " The MAF sensor as suggested could be the fault .May also be coil pack , but could try cleaning MAF first .

Thanks very much. I will try the MAF sensor first and if that doesnt work the coil pack.

Was wondering if anyone can help. I have a 06 reg corsa. Light came on. Spoke to a mechanic who used the diagnostic kit and found that the O2 sensor was gone replaced that. Next day the light came on again and found that there is two of the sensors. Replaced the other one. Car was ok for a month then the light came back on. Checked again with the diagnostic kit and found that the sensor which has to do with choke (hope that makes sense) is gone. Mechanic changed that sensor. Next day the light came back on. Can anyone tell me what is the reason for the sensors going like that. Everytime the mechanic fixed it he cleared the system so the light would go off.

Sounds like he replaced the air flow sensor etc. Apart from the engine management light coming, do you notice a problem with the way the car drives as the light could be for something else.
