White smoke!

1997 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 gls
Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 1997
Variant: 1.4 gls
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Drove a short distance today, about 3 - 4 miles and noticed the temp gauge was off the scale. I have had this before at low speed and it is easily cured by putting the heater and fan on full. However, this time it was accompanied by billowing white exhaust fumes and not at low speed. I had to pull over to check oil and water and let it cool. They were both fine although I topped up with a little water anyway (always carry it for an old car. Also noticed that when I put the heater and fan on full the air was cool not warm. Help!

with the engine giving off smoke like you say then there is a chance that you may require the head gasket replaceing but firstly i would say you have a air lock in the water system and possibly a blockage so get hold of some engine coolant flush and put this in and run the car for about 30 mins or so with the engine up to temp of course this will release any greas and grime and corrossion in the engine then this will need draining from the system and then refilling with fresh water and antifreeze and see hao you go from there price wise you are looking about £20 for item ie antifreeze and coolant flush and time to do the job yourself but if you plan to pay someone you could be looking about £40 plus also chech that your engine cooling fan is working

my car for the past 3 months has had a little chugger on start, not when its cold tho it was like it had no choke. I dint think nathing ov it. Other day i noticed a serious oil leek but noticed only did this when the car was turned on. On the way to the garage absolutely sh*t loads of smoke came out of the exhaust at first it was pure white and then a bit of blu smoke you couldnt see the road behind me it was that bad. i dont get it, its serviced regularly etc and well looked after. got an idea maybe headgasket and oil seals. or maybe something to do with oil pressure. soz bout long post
