1998 Vauxhall Corsa wont start

when the key is in the ignition all dash lights are on and radio is on when the key is turned to the start position the engine doesnt turn over the radio goes dead and the dashboard lights go dim and the engine managment light starts flashing any ideas please

does the engine light flash if you just put the ignition on and dont turn the key to crank
