2002 Vauxhall Corsa intermittent starting

Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 2002
Variant: 1.2 petrol
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I had a flat battery and connected both jump leads to battery without dissconnecting the negative lead. When I switch the ignition on the engine management light flashes and has a constant clicking noise. Sometimes it will start but more often than not I get the above problem.

sounds like starter motor fault, check wiring to start and make sure you have good live and earth

The negative lead is the earth , dont know why you would want to disconnect it , unless I'm missing something .The clicking sounds like a relay , should be able to locate by noise and try tapping it or removing and refitting .Sometimes works .

Is the clicking when you switch on ignition or when you try to start car ?

After reading the hand book it clearly stated when charging the battery the negetive lead should not be connected to the battery but as far away as possible on the chassis or it could cause an electrical problem. Any ideas??

does`nt really matter if you have battery disconnected when charging,it will still charge,

Quite common , some suggest earthing on engine .They normally are referring to the lead from the jump vehicle to an earth point on your car rather than direct to battery , but you dont disconnect negative battery lead .
