I was changing glow plugs on my isuzu diesel every 9 months until i found out i had been putting 5 volt ones in instead of 11 volt ones. Yes thats right 11 volts. with 4 glow plugs working the drain on the battery over 4 glow plugs delivers 10 volts to them, however if one fails the other 3 may get 10 and a half if another fails they get 11 and soon burn out. Do you know that the isuzu engine has a glow plug pre and post heat? The glow plugs continue to work after start up to increase the engine temp quicker to help with the emissions and reduce knock. They stay on until the engine temp reaches a certain value(off top of my head about 80ish degrees C). This doesnt help them if one or more is bust as they get pretty dang hot with the extra voltage going through them. Ive looked into this in detail when i tried figuring out why mine were burning out but like i say it was 5 volt glow plugs. after the correct ones were fitted it never troubled me again.
Ive put a post up here a couple of years ago about it in more detail if that helps. Do a search on my username. If its not on here its on www.mk3oc.com same username.
