Temp guage showing up to 100 and heater blowin cold

1998 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 petrol breeze
Car: Vauxhall Corsa

Variant: 1.4 petrol breeze

Hi Guys

Just as the title says the temp guage is showing up to 100 and the heater is blowing cold. Prior to this on damp days until temp guage has moved up a little and settled at around 90ish, the car has been jumping briefly and it has almost felt like there is muck in the petrol (that's not it). However it was very wet this morning and the kangarooing just did not happen, I am sure the jumping and the temp problems are unconnected and maybe it is time we got a new one but we have not won the lottery yet so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If it's overheating and heater blowing cold , it could be head gasket . Is the cooling system pressurising ? Could check thermostat is not stuck . Also try bleeding cooling system .If head gasket suspect , a sniff test ( block test ) will confirm .Could also try reverse flushing heater matrix / cooling system .
