Loss of power

2002 Vauxhall Corsa 1.0i 12V Club 3dr Hatchback
Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 2002
Variant: 1.0i 12V Club 3dr Hatchback
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have recently purchased a 2002 vauxhall corsa 1.0i 12V Club 3dr Hatchback from a private seller. Since driving the car ive noticed an orange light appear on the dashboard. I checked in the cars manual and it says that this light is to do with a posssible fault in the engine or the cars electrics however aslong as this light doesnt flash then it is to be ignored. However whilst driving, the car has started to cut the power out. The car is not stalling and the engine is still on but the revs and the speed decline and pressing down on the accelerator seems to have no effect. The only way to start the car again is to turn the engine off and restart the car.

Have you got any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Not advisable to ignore warning lights ,is it the light with an engine and a lightning flash through it ? If so ,this light is indicating that there is a fault in the engine management system .If you get a diagnostic scan it should tell what the fault is .Could be something simple causing it .

Its an orange light, it shows a car with a spanner going through it. What ive described has happened 4 times in three days, and ive only had the car for three days.

That is the engine management light (orange car symbol with a spanner through it )This is indicating a fault which is causing the engine to lose power .In some handbooks it said "it is of no significance if it doesn't keep on re-occuring" .Your car is needing ckecked out .This will confirm that ,

hi there

1st off the the problem you describe is a common fault with most corsa models. from what you say, the air flow meter may be on the way out- this would definetly be the cause of the car slowing and rev's dropping however you need to say if you can hear any 'pinking' sounds this would be most noticible on any hill as you apply power. try it then post back.

otherwise, if you say the car is losing power and it is not on a hill, it could be a coil pack problem as the engine is going into limp mode-a safe guard.

or, that light that comes on is just telling you its time for a service, some cars will reduce power to put the point across. check this out 2.

hope this helps:)

My 2010 Corsa sxi is intermitantly losing power when i press the accelerator as though there is a short block in fuel delivery or an injector block. I have had the car a year and three visits to the garage to rectify the fault. The first time the air intake sensor was reflced which sorted the fault, but it has reoccured several more times and had two more garage tests which have not resolved the problem....surley a vauxhall experet can find out the problem ?

any ideas out there ?

after researching myself the suggested faults seem to be;

1. Air mass flow meter

2. Fuel filter

3. Air filter

4. Air mass sensor....is that the same as 1 ?

BUT...the Air Mass Flow Meter comes out on top as the possible fault.
