My wiper motor started making a knocking noise and won't return properly, carried on driving and all lights on dash lit up and F flashed up on gear selection and car stopped, had to wait a few minutes to be able to start car again, no problems with car when not using wipers. Would the wiper motor problem cause the gearbox ECU problems or is this the start of another problem

From what you say , probably best replacing wiper motor if it's faulty and see if that cures your problems . If still not right , get a diagnostic scan carried out .

get scan does for faults codes if not fault codes show up replace the wiper motar
