1999 Vauxhall Corsa engine management ecu

While battery was connected used a very long screwdriver to push ECU plug in because car wouldn't start, thought it may have been loose, unfortunately screwdriver touched positive terminal and metal locking tab , heard a electric clunk didn't think i'd done any damage as it was so quick but when switched ignition on engine management light stays on was not there before could you help please, do I need a new ECU and if so can it be fitted directly into car or does it need to be programmed on a computer before it is used. please help lady in distress

because you have caught the battery positive against the ecu body you have shorted out something but you can firstly take the car to the dealers and see if the ecu can be reprogrammed as you could be lucky but if you do need a new ecu then you are getting expensive to replace and reprogramme but try to get the car reprogramme first and then go from there hope this helps

You have probably shorted some of the circuits inside the ecu which will mean a new one and this has to be done by a dealer as it will need to be programmed. Always dis connect the battery earth terminal if you are unsure of what you are doing
