1999 Vauxhall Corsa cuts out intermitently

have 16v 1200cc vaxhall corsa 1999 t reg double overhead cam.cuts out when feels like it been told it was crank sensor or egr valve but have had crank sensor check ok. was told you can blank off egr valve with gasket can you do this with out damage to engine or has anyone got slution to my problem as am releying on car as i am disabled an need it but only get incapacity benefit please help

blanking of the egr is the only way you will get the car to run correctly as i keep on telling people it will cost you about £5 max for the gasket and then you will need to reprogramme the cars ecu to make it think differently to how it did run but this can only be reprogrammed by the dealers but can be done via other garages if they have the right equipement so all in all you will be looking about £85 ish job done at the dealers

is it only cutting out on idle or whist driving
