2001 Vauxhall Corsa emissions light comes on when car warms up

Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 2001
Variant: Expression 1.0l
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
The emmissions light is coming on once the car warms up. The engine management light has come on once. No loss of power has been noticed until today when the engine stopped running and wouldn't restart. An hour later it started without a problem. A quick check by an independant mechanic has suggested either crankshaft sensor or 'electrics' which is vague. Any suggestions what I can look at?

More likely to be the lambda sensor , this explains better , someone with same car and same problem .

Hi
Yes you are correct, the O2 sensor is the lambda sensor. You will have two sensors on the car. An upstream (before the cat) and a down stream (sensor two after the cat)
It has been known for lambda sensors to go faulty. However more often than not, it is some other problem which has a knock on effect and is then picked up by the lambda sensor.
The lambda sensors are wired directly to the engines ECU in a 'closed loop'. So apart from checking the wiring cable harness for any signs of trauma or corrosion, or if you are feeling lucky start buying parts to fit on in the hope that it will sort out the problem, I'm afraid that you will have to subcontract the job to a person with more testing equipment.
