Flashing engine warning light

2005 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2sxi twinport
Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 2005
Variant: 1.2sxi twinport
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I recently had a problem with missfiring and had a garage diagnose the problem. Turned out to be contaminated fuel and the petrol tank was taken out, cleaned and filter replaced. The car was fine for a few weeks after this but I have recently been getting the engine warning light flashing and car starts to judder and missfire. This happens when I am showing just over a quarter tank of fuel and nearly always when I am driving a long sweeping left hand corner. If I fill the car up, the problem seems to go and the car runs fine again until the same scenario happens again...I have also noticed that the fuel gauge doesn`t seem to be reading correct. It was reading under a half tank and it only took about £10 worth of petrol. The tank was full but the gauge was showing just over three quarters full. One more thing, there is sometimes a rush of air when I open the petrol cap...like it is drawing a vacuum. The problem does seem to be somehow related to the fuel. Can the fuel level sender cause anything like this... I would appreciate any help or advice at all...

Might well be as fuel pump and sender unit are the one unit in tank .

looks like a while ago now you were asking, but thought i would post just incase....
I had the EXACT same problem (on the exact same car, 55 plate sxi 1.2).... sweeping lefts seem to activate the warning light, and until I have made complaints the garage ignored the fact it was when i made left turns, and this is now the third time the cars in the garage in 2 weeks.

heres what they did so far:

1st time - new coil pack + sparks due to the misfire message on the computer,

2nd time - done tests and found contaminated fuel (still showing misfires on the computer) - flushed the engine/tank and new filter/fuel as your garage did the first time,

as neither of these seemed to work and i still got the issue on a sweeping left, a complaint was made and they now took the car in for a third time and have told me that they found a crack in the canister letting water in, and its going to take a few days to fix.... so hopefully this is the end of it, if it turns out to be anything else, i'll come back and update this again!
