High pitched noise coming from engine

Recently a high pitched whinning noise has started to emit from the engine. It makes a sound like an electric motor which gets worse during acceleration. Though the performance is not affected in any way. Drives fine, just this embarassing noise.

Really impossible to diagnose without hearing noise . Could be something simple like alternator or belt slipping , but best to get it checked out asap incase it is the start of something more serious .
