Intermittent temp gauge and service light

2002 Vauxhall Corsa Sxi
Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 2002
Variant: Sxi
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
Now and again the service light will come on but at same time the temp gauge needle will drop back to 0, I pull over turn the ignition off and on and usually about two times later its all fine. I'm assuming it's a dodgy connector at the back of the dashboard I hope anyway, I have had sensor in engine replaced because of engine light coming on few months ago and car drives fine but I wanted to ask for anyone's help incase it's something else other than dodgy dash, the car doesnt overheat but I'm a bit worried that if it was a dodgy temp gauge sensor is that reason service light comes on? I mean are they related?

Temp gauge and service light are not related .Are you sure it is the service light and not engine fault light ? Scan it with Tech 2/3 or suitable equipment for fault codes .

It is service light so I'm assuming that side of dash has faulty connection, the engine management light is obviously totally different symbol. I have checked in car manual just to be sure, sounds silly but defo service light with the spanner running through the middle of a car symbol lol

On that year of Corsa this is what I understood

" The service indicator on a Corsa C is displayed as InSP in the trip mileage display. The car with spanner light indicates a fault with the engine electronics (pretty much the same as the EML on a Corsa B). You'll need to take it to a garage to get the fault code looked at .

and this from Corsa forum

" The car with spanner light is not a 'service light' at all. The service indicator on a Corsa C is displayed as InSP in the trip milage display.

I tried a code check and apparently its 0115 relating to the coliant temperature check circuit, does this mean cos the gauge or connector is faulty?

Hi,take it there’s plenty of coolant in the system, code relates to the reading from the sensor ,it’s seeing a higher or lower resistance than normal ,would check the wiring to sensor first ,could be the sensor itself .

Sensor is cheap to buy and easy fix , replace it

Where is it located, I'll check youtube

Right looks easy as I'll order one and bung it in and see if that does it, will that error code still be stored or will replacing that part clear it, just being padantic I know, if it doesn't work could this be the thermostat? Or just bad or dodgy wires to gauge?
Answered Aug 25, 2020 (3 years ago)
Unlikely to be thermostat , code may clear if fixed . If not , delete with code reader . If no code reader disconnecting battery for 10 /30 mins usually clears code . On some older cars you may have to enter radio code if battery unhooked . As suggested , check wiring also .

When sensor removed , check where it screws into is clear . Over the years I have had an odd one that has been clogged up with rust / shit and restricting coolant to sensor .
