Lack of power, cutting out

1998 Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 LS
Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 1998
Variant: 1.0 LS
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
i recently been having problems with my 1998 corsa. as soon as the engine is under load, usually on A roads, motorways, slip raods, anywhere where i put my foot down, the engine seems to kick back and the management light comes on, until i ease off the throttle then it goes out. now i saw on this forum that alot of people have said its the air mass sensor, which i will change soon, but the other day when i was out , i was coming home when the car felt like it wanted to stall, i got into a side street and as soon as i come to a standstill it died. i tried to start it but it would not fire, but would only if i left it for 10-15 mins when it would start again but would die again shortly after. can this problem be related to the air mass sensor or has something else just gone wrong with the car. IF ANY ONE COULD HELP SHED SOME LIGHT I WOULD BE GREATFUL :)

if your eng man lamp came on there will be a code in the ecu even if the light has gone out, most garages will read the codes and this will cut out any guess work, you can also buy code readers very cheeply.also i think you can place a wire between 2 terminals in the diagnosis conector and read off the codes in binary on the eng man lamp then google the code to find out what it means,id try a friendly garage with a scanner

i would say possibly the crank sensor on the back of the engine needs replacing quite a common fault

thanks is it defo the crank sensor or would it be the cam sensor too??

seeming the air mass sensor is more than definetly shot, could this also affect the car stalling?? or are you saying there is a strong chance a second fault has occured

cam sensor wont cause the car to stop but a crank sensor would, could also be the coil pack.

thanks for that, that eliminates something for me. is the crank sensor easy to get to?? what does it do anyway

so is my problem defo the crank sensor?? i started the car fine yesterday and twice i got it up to when the fan kicks in and it didnt cut out. is this because the car didnt move or if i take it 4 a spin will it cut out as the oils heat up with movement???

the crank sensor lets the ecu know that the engine is turning then the ecu fires the coils and injects the fuel it is on the back of the engine held in by one torx screw and is easy and cheap to replace

replaced the crank sensor which might i say was a bugger to do when its jacked up!!!!!!! i couldnt get my hands in where they needed to be. finally did it and the car runs ok now. also replaced air flow meter, pinking sound stopped now and got my full power back.may send it back though coz the car started to kick a bit the other day so may jst be dodgy part, but the problems are solved.
