2015 Vauxhall Corsa the boot lid will not close or open and light stays on

I have a 15 reg Corsa 1.4. Recently the boot would not close properly, the rear wipers would not work and the washers would not work either. A local mechanic has had the car for 4 days and has advised us that a new unit has to be fitted beneath the car (seized up with dirt and grit) which controls “The rear electronics”. Does this sound correct to you?. The new unit apparently costs £300+labour.

Hard to say without seeing the car , but dont know what unit is referred too . Sounds like faulty boot lock or damaged wiring at top of tailgate in rubber sheath where it passes into frame .
