Timing self adjust and knocking on engine

Hi. I have the Vauxhall Corsa 1.2XER sxi 16 Valve and i bought the car not long ago. It was fine in the beginning of the first 3 weeks but the did not have much power as when cruise control was switched on at a slow hill the car will loose speed drastically. Fuel consumption was of the charts high. After a while a knocking noise started of as faded at first but as the miles go past the noise starting to get louder. The mechanic advise me that the timing was out and was adjusted and tje engine light was on permanent and when he took the car out for a test al was quiet and good but the noise came back, engine light appears and loss of power again and he opened again and saw the timing what out again.

If timing going out ,it usually signifies wear on timing chain requiring a timing chain kit to be fitted .Need to get it scanned for fault codes .

Should have said timing chain / tensioner , common fault on that car .

The timing kit was done at 60k and not 4 months ago. So it has a new timing kit

If that's the case , there is something worn or faulty causing the timing to alter .Coil pack failure is also a common fault on that car causing it to drop a cyl and lack of power , but any decent mechanic should be aware of this and catch it as a fault .

On some years / models of that car there was problems with the camshafts also .

My mechanic has adjusted the timing correctly and the power is back but there is still a knocking noise on the engine. Please any help would be appreciated.

My concern is just how many times the timing has needed adjusting?~
Timing chain tension is from oil pressure and these engines are known for oil problems.
Which result in chain jumping AND failure of oil pressure to the crankshaft.
So my next question is just where is this knocking coming from?
Is it around the bottom of the engine?

Dependant on mileage and wear on engine , the oil pressure , cyl. compressions , oil pump could all be causing problems .Correctly set up timing should never need adjusting three times unless something far wrong .
