Best bet would to get it checked out by having a diagnostic scan carried out and see what faults are shown .

Diagnostic reading was done by the AA who said it was a gearbox fault but he wasn't sure what and was towed home..after a couple of hours the car drove fine again and has since lost power and again started after a while ..my friend has done a diagnostic test and said there was no reading as all the codes have been cleared..so just wondered if this could be a gearbox fault would it cause my corsa to lose power

Have you checked the automatic transmission oil level.

Yes that has been checked all ok

Has it been checked with Vauxhall software like Tech 2 or Opcom?

Reason for asking is this isn't really an auto box in the traditional way.
it's a standard box and clutch with a servo mechanism for shifting.
And it could suffer power loss but kill the engine and prevent starting?
Hmm.
Vaux software give the best read on theses.
Not to mention the functions for reseting and adjustment.

My friend has offered me to take the car over to his as he has a diagnostic reader that will pick up the old codes ..I just want to know in your opinion is it likely to be something fixable as I don't want to drive it all the way to the other side of London if I'm probably better off just buying another car.

If not something simple , with a car of that year , as you suggest , may be best bet to cut your losses and replace car .

I think I'll just cut my losses ..thankyou for all your help and advice though 😊

Might be worth checking the earth strap before you give it up.

I am not a vauxhall man but it should run off the -battery lead. Have you had the battery load tested is it charging ok.
Answered Jan 16, 2016 (8 years ago)
Battery hasn't been tested but once it loses power and cuts out whilst driving after a while it starts straight away so would the battery still be an issue if this happens ?thanks

If the battery and alternator are not charging property it can course a lot of problems. Maybe worth checking it out .
