How many miles do you think it can do in one trip?

1999 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2
Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 1999
Variant: 1.2
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Hello all,

My boyfriend has an old little jallopy, a vauxhall crosa 1.2, 16 valve 1999 with 85K miles on it. It's served us well, however it has broken down once in the last 3 months, but that was an exhaust issue that we have since fixed.

My question is- do you reckon an old little car like that could make a 6 hour round trip from Leeds to London and back? This trip would take place at night so we don't expect much traffic.I understand this is quite subjective and really does depend from car to car however any personal opinions on the matter are welcome. More so if any of you have the same/similar car and have made such trips in the past.

Thanking you for your time and help in advance.

The exhaust can give problems on cars a lot newer , so wouldn't count that against car .On a motorway , at higher speeds , for long periods on an older car CAN cause problems to develop .The only one to be able to judge if it's feasible is the person who drives and knows the car , yourself .It also depends on whether the car has been well maintained and serviced .If you are a member of the AA or Rac and got relay , this should give you some sort of security if problems turn up .I have seen some cars travel a lot further than that and never failed to be amazed by them and the owners as I would never have considered driving round the block in them , they were that bad !!!But they done it constantly .Best of luck and safe journey if you decide on the trip .

P.s . check oil , coolant levels , lights and tyres / pressure , washer fluid if going .

I have a car similar size and age. Also have recently had exhaust problems. If they are all sorted and the cars been looked after well it should be ok to do this as long as the car has been topped up with coolant all fluid levels have been checked and tires also and filled up. I tend to do sometimes long journeys in my car and is ok. As long as you don't thrash it it will be ok. Just make sure you also have breakdown cover and take breaks along the way motorways are better I think as long as its not pushed.

I'm not an expert but have experience with a similar car. So as long as everythings sorted and checked and you don't thrash it it'll be ok. At the end of the day I find Vauxhalls mire reliable than the car I have so if my car can do it yours should
