my car won't start, it lights up but is flasing a F symbol on the dash board?

Corsa semiautomatic yes?
The "F" symbol is a fault detected in the easytronic gearbox systems,it cuts power to the ecu so the car wont start.
And you'd better be sitting down when you get the repair estimate.

what is the cost of getting it repaired do i have to take it to a vaxhall garage or can others repair

try the crank shaft cencer it failed on my sons corsa and it is easy to change
