Timing

1998 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 16 valve
Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 1998
Variant: 1.2 16 valve
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Thanks for the previous fixes, haven't had time to try any of them yet.
Looking at the timing, with the number 1 piston at top dead centre, the 2 camshafts lobes are facing away from each other. front cam facing towards the exhaust manifold, the other facing towards the back of the car, is this correct, I have never tried doing a timing chain.
Thanks for any advice, Stuart

You need to look at back of camshafts there is a cut out at end you need to fit a plate in to lock them and a pin goes in to crank shaft to you need to do this or if you don't you could damage valves

You can't be doing this without the locking kit??
That's plain nuts.
to tension the chain both cam sprockets MUST be free to rotate on the cams, both cams locked, crank the same.
so doing this changes the position of the back sprocket and so the position of the cam phase sensor, you need the locking tool!!
at best it might run but with the mil light on permanantly!
worst is a lot worse.
don't try this without the full locking kit!!
