2001 Vauxhall Corsa starting problems?

Yesterday i went to start my car and it was turning over but not starting, i left it while i rang my dad to come to the rescue and typically it started as soon as he got there and has last night and this morning,

i'm going to get the battery and alternator checked today, (this is the second time this has happened now first time was a)can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

firstly check out the connections on the battery amd just make sure they are secure and tight and then have a look at the tdc sensor located at the front of the engine down near the side of the gear box remove this and spray wd40 in to the connection and put back on to the terminal
