2003 Vauxhall Corsa wont start just shows f on the dash board

Yesterday my car was fine in the morning...but then i went to clean a bug off my windscreen the wiper blades went like a snail pace and when they settled back down it sounded like a knocked sound...bit like they were stuck..my brother had a look and said that i need a new motor for my wipers which is fair enough but later that day when i went to move the car...it would not go in to reverse it just flashed at me, would go into forward but the knocking sound was there...then the car wouldnt do anything and just showed and f on the dash board....would this have anything to do with my wiper blade motor like a safety thing or is there something seriously wrong...please help!!

Have you checked the level of the transmission fluid.
