Cutting out no revs

1998 Vauxhall Combo combo van 1.7d
Car: Vauxhall Combo
Year: 1998
Variant: combo van 1.7d
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Having converted my van to a twin tank system some time ago to run on vegoil/diesel mix, the main fuel tank has not been used for some time. I recently removed the extra tank to run back on the main tank with just diesel. I noticed that the diesel was coming through a red colour.Having started the van after some trouble pulling the fuel through it ran for a bit and then lost all revs and would not accelerate and eventually cut out. It will now only tick over very sluggish. Do i have to take the fuel tank off and give it a good clean out and renew the original filter.Or is there another way without removing the tank.Having removed the filter and emptied the filter into a jug there seemed to be alot of debris and bits floating about in it.Could the problem be due to the fuel been old and slight corrosion in the tank due to lack of use???

the combo tank isnt coated inside so in theory a quick flush with 5 ltrs of fuel pumped out and replace filter should do the job.air line blast the fuel lines as well esp if they were not used with other tank
