2004 Vauxhall Combo limp mode

Variant: 1.8tdi
Engine warning light comes on and accelerator goes into limp mode, sometimes will clear after 10mins or so or disconnect and reconnect battery earth lead. Code reader sez pedals fine but seems error message over-rides
Originally may be once in a year now much more frequent and not clearing, suspect ECU faulty,!

If engine light on there must be a stored code that can be retrieved with proper scanner It's the engine that goes into limp mode , not the pedal . You changed the fuel filter ?
