2000 Vauxhall Combo flickering lights.

Car: Vauxhall Combo
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.7di
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
I have a Vauxhall Combo van, 1.7 diesel, non turbo, 2000 model, and would like to know if anyone has any idea what is making my lights flicker , the alternator is only putting out anything from 7 to 9 volts, but would a faulty alternator make my lights flicker, and my gauges in van are reading wrong, like my temp one is lower, my fuel one is reading near empty, when its half full, and my van is in drive, but its reading 35mph!!!! I drove van tonight, i thought my lights were a little dim, but then they got a little brighter, when i parked van, to go in shop, for 5 minutes, i came out, and it would barely turn over, i got a jump to get me home, but got these problems on way home- lights flickering, dash lights flickering, battery light flickering on and off. please someone-- can you help???

hi its sounds like you have a charging problem either from the alternator/batt Halfords if you have one do a free charging check,
to do the test by yourself a multimetre set to volts place the red terminal on the main lead from the alternator and the black terminal to earth "engine block" this will give the correct output from the alternator 14.2v with the engine running that same voltage should be at the batt
