2004 Vauxhall Combo steering free-play

Car: Vauxhall Combo
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.7 Diesel
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
There seems to be an element of Free-Play in the Steering. The Van is currently in need of Front Tyres and Tracking - will this improve the Free-Play situation?

Thanks

Check the tie rod arms for any play. This is the arm that the track rod ends screw onto, these are generally one of the first things to check if you have any excessive play in the steering. If these are at fault then they cannot track the vehicle and get a true reading...

Witty. Thanks for that. Yes it would appear to me that their is some L > R (in / out)play in both of these. Can they be tightened in some manner?..

Many Thanks

Witty

Thanks for that. Is there any hope of changing them without recourse to the special type Tool that I see being used on Youtube?

Not sure, but on some vehicles you can just about get an open ended spanner or a thin ring spanner in to undo the tie rod...
