Loss of power

i was on the motorway the other day in the middle lane to over take when i lost all power to the van, i managed to pull over to the hard shoulder and had to call out the breakdown who then had to transport me and my van 150 miles back home..yes there is plenty fuel in it and is showing 1/2 a tank full,(and yes i did put the right fuel in)even i know what we girls can be like..there is a light on the dash which i've never noticed before and this is a car and spanner,hope my van isn't trying to tell me something.. can anyone please help this maiden in distress oh and my once trusted little combo...thank you..
